Book club 2009

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

At the end of 2008 , I think, our litle church group started a book club.  These are some of the books I remember reading from this year. Not sure Igot them all-

Last October-(I think) we read

sleepy hollow

Then I remember reading

200px-Charles_Dickens-A_Christmas_Carol-Cloth-First_Edition_1843

A Christmas Carol. (This is a picture of the books original cover. Wish I had that copy!)

Then I am pretty sure we did some Dr. Seuss. I missed that one because I was traveling at the time. BUT- strange enough on my layover in the airport I found some paintings of his book covers that I would have LOVED to get to hang up in my grandbaby’s room- but wayyyyy toooooooo much money! Dr. Seuss At this book club meeting they all picked their favorite Dr. Seuss boook to share and we had to explain why it was our favorite. Sorry to have missed that one.

The next few might be out of order- but we read

160px-Farneheit_451I really enjoyed this book. I don’t think I would have ever picked it up to read if it hadn’t been for book club. I didn’t think I was a scify fan. But, because I read it and enjoyed it so much I realized there are a bunch of Science Fiction stuff I like. When I took a trip to WA this past spring I made it a point to go to the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle WA. That was such a cool place.

We also read…..

the persian pickle club

 and…TheWilloughbys

and….the huger games

 and……

graveyardbookcoverGYBsmallHCThe Graveyard Book. I found two different book jackets- I know from watching a video of Neil Gaiman that in England they published the book in both and “adult” version and a “children’s” version. I guess this is an example of the two different covers.

The last book we will be reading for this years Book Club is…

hinds feet on high places

Hinds Feet in High Places. I have not read this one yet- but I have some time. In December our book club will be meeting to set the list for this upcoming year. I am hoping to get some great books on the list!

side by side

This is it! The quilt top from my friend “R”- the picture does not do it justice! The purple was incredible!

so…side by side here are the two of the four.  When friend “W” and friend “C” sends me their finished ones I will add them on.

But I just find it so amazing that we started with the same fabrics and added others we liked and the quilts are so different looking.

Next I might try the same fabrics with the same pattern and see how they would look different! I am sure they still would!

Well, thanks to friends… R, W, and C for playing the lets make a quilt game!

An October 13th quilt AKA Happy Birthday wherever you r Sherry

c's fabric

so, got a picture from my friend “C” This is her pile of fabrics that will be used in the quilt that the four friends are making. I don’t think she mentioned what pattern she will be using.

I still need to get a picture of  my friend “R”‘s quilt top. She has finished the top using the pieces the four of us sent and I can’t wait to see it. I have today off, so maybe sometime I can catch up with  her.

My friend “W” sent a picture of the wedding quilt she made for her son and his bride. B20090725_quilts_0017eautiful isn’t it! I am sure she will get to the frienship quilt soon, but I love the pattern and colors of the wedding quilt and it gives me new ideas as well.

I am going to the quilt shop today- if I ever get myself out of bed. I have some ideas for my next project and want to get more done on it. I am thinking…shapes……

Also, today would have been my sister’s BD and I miss her so I thought I would just get my mind into  a happier place and go play around with fabrics.  So today I will pick out fabrics for an Oct 13th quilt and maybe by her bd next year I will have it done. Well, off I go..

I think I will find out what the others did and try to add them on here too! This was “fun” but I didn’t like the final quilt. I loved the fabrics, I just didn’t like to HAVE to get it done.  Guess deadlines stifle my creative side.

six months…

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Last April I had an idea to make the quilt.  I have worked on and off on the project for the past six months and realizing that the time was here to be finished- I am finished. I wonder how the other girls did? So, now I will try to figure out how to add pictures of mine. But, I will post this first, cuz I don’t want to lose this while trying to figure out how to insert the photos….. to be continued…
