A quilt is born

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

So, I sent off the fabric to three friends- and I heard back from all of the already!  A new quilt is about to be born! What is exciting to me is that everyone will send some fabric that we will each work into quilts in different ways.  The end result should be fun! The fabric I sent has a black background with two shades of green- light and lighter and a smidge of white with swirls behind the flowers- so far  one person has sent a light green fabric with what I would call a vine pattern. They look great together! I can’t wait to see the other two choices. I think I will try to post a picture of what we are starting with- but how pretty the fabrics are together you just can’t capture with my camera!

In reading news… I am now reading And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. That was the next one selected for the book club. I think It will be good. I have to admit- at first I was lost but then I reread the first few pages and realized there is no “main character” just lots of people- once I figured them all out I was good. So far anyway. I have never read any Agatha Christie books- we will see.

I am also still working on putting what I have for my family history onto ancestry.com- that keeps me busy- not to mention the top of my desk a mess. I bought a thing to put the files in while they are in use- so I don’t have to keep going back and forth to the filing cabinet- but as of yet it sits empty and stuff is everywhere. True to my nature.- there I just took a minute and put them all in their little place. Now I just have fabric laying around. It never ends…..

I have to check out my books page I think I have a suggestion for  another book to read. Stop on over at the library page if you have a minute!

I have made a decision

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

It isn’t really a big deal. I have decided what my next quilting project will be. I know I know- shocking isn’t it. I have a few fabrics that I have two yards of- so I picked one and cut it into four half yard sections. I then decided on 3 friends (yes I have 3 friends) that quilt who, I think, would like to share in the fun. I am sending each of the half a yard of the fabric I picked and they in turn will send the other three on the list half of yard of fabric they each pick and then we will find the patterns and other farics we each want to use. In six months (octobor) I wil get pictures from them of either completed projects or thier pile of fabric and post them so everyone can see how different each one is. I know it might sound boring to some. I just like the idea of a new project and the fact that there will be four quilts out there that used the same four fabrics but each will look so different. It gives me something to work on. And I like looking ahead.

There really isn’t much else to talk about. My hubands poor truck had to go in for repairs. He has missed it so much this past weekend you would have thought he lost an old friend. It is at a gas station near our house and he drives by and “just looks” every so often. I hope the parts come in today. Where we live we do not have trash pick up so we need to take our stuff to the dump. Of course we pay for a sticker that will let us in there- not as exciting as the yearly beach pass but just as important- and that sticker is on his truck. So now we have an overflow of trash…..I think that is why he wants it back. He is always happy after his dump runs. LOL

Book club is meeting this week again We are doing a childrens book this time. I hope to get my copy back before the meeting so I can look it over again. If I were still teaching 5th graders I could come up with something to talk about- but it is tricky with adults. I think we are also picking from books that people will bring in to set up the next few we will read. I think my choice will be The Persian Pickle Club.  I enjoy the book club and wish more people would come. I think I will check the one out at the library again.

This will be a busy week for me. I am looking forward to it.

cranky? ME???

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

ok- so taday I feel cranky? Why? well- I just do. That is all….I think everyone should have at least one planned cranky day, the rest of them can just come as a surprise. What to do to feel better? Hummmmmm- laundry is on the list to do today- BUT that is no fun. I will do it, but I will be cranky about it. So I have decided to play with my fabrics. I am working on an idea to share with a couple of friends- I will keep you posted about that. Well, I guess it is shower time. Time to wash the cranky away. Do they even make soap for that!

the pinwheel quilt

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

This quilt was made from fabric that I bought on a trip to NC a few years ago. They are crazy colors and something that I would not normally use. In fact- it took me so long to use them because I thought I didn’t like them- BUT once I picked the pattern and got it all put together  it was like magic…. perfect together. For the back I went with a nice flannel. I wanted this to be a quilt that just lays around the living room adding color and inviting people to cover up with it. As you can tell from the picture I still have to finish the binding, had a small problem with my machine while I was putting it on so I will need to pick some threads and start that part over.

Ancestry.com cool tool!

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I know I know….. an update would be nice. I just get busy by the end of the day and before I know it days have gone by without a new word written. I think the subtitle of my blog should be “Lisa Ann Writes….. sometimes…” I have been keeping myself busy and it seems when I plan to sit down and blog life happens. Funny stuff too- stuff that I should put in my blog. Like last night, I went to dinner with my son. He is in his early twentys- he picked the place to eat. We went in and he knew all the waitresses in the place. “Hey what r u doing here!” each one asked in turn… with their big teeth smiles. Me… I was invisable to them. HELLO- there will be TWO for dinner tonight…. He knows everyone, but I think espically girls who can serve food is his favorite. The dinner conversation was very interesting and funny- of which I can share none- but it was fun to watch his face turn red as the paper football flew past my head to the people behind us. OUTOFBOUNDS! My big project has been working on my family history stuff again. I finally got to go to the Natational Archives near my house last week and was so frustrated by the people working around me- talking really loud and the helper was CHEWING GUM right in my ear- I really don’t like that- plus I have been doing this for sometime and don’t need such close attention. I just needed to use their computer which has ancestry.com for free on it- but I just got so frustrated I just came home and signed up for a free 14 day trial memebership. So yesterday I spent hours, at my pace, going through things I wanted to see. I started my family tree on line in hopes of having someone connect to it with more information than I have. It is really fun to put in a name a see a little leaf pop up- that means there might be a connection somewhere and you get to see that right away- rather than searching first. It is such a cool thing. And if you find there is a record you want to attach to that person it lets you do that. So now, for example, my sister can look at the family history find our dad and see him on the census when he was 2 years old. Such a cool tool. So that is how I have been spending my time. Between laundry and going for walks and enjoying my family I can go online for a few minutes and check out my family tree! All good stuffs! Oh ya, my son also told me I should sell my quilts. so if anyone is looking for a handmade quilt that will be done by the year 2015 let me know. LOL He has no idea how long they really take me! That would be fun for me though. I have already decided on the next one I do- I will actually take a picture of the one I am working on now  and add it to my blog for my fans….

patricipate and anticipate……

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

So, here’s how it works: the first 3 people to leave a comment on this post will receive, at some point during the year a handmade gift from me. What it will be and when it will arrive is a total surprise! The catch is that you must participate as well. Before you leave your comment, write up a pay it forward post on your blog to keep the fun going (or copy and paste like I did). Then come back, let me know you’re going to play and sit back and anticipate the arrival of your gift!
