So, today I was home early enough to play in my sewing room. I have been wanting to try to make the melon patch for awhile- and here it is. Sewing on a curve is tricky. But , I did it!!!!
Yeah!

Yeah!
Here it is…the long awaited list of books I will be reading for book club this year. I really like how we have our book club set up. In December we have a meeting where we pick the books for the next year. That way we know ahead of time which books we will be reading.
January 2010- Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins- this was a follow up to The Hunger Games that we read in 2009. I enjoyed reading the series, but when it came time for the club meeting it had been awhile since I had read the book so I didn’t remember what it was about until everyone else started chatting about it. I do like the series and think the third one will be out soon. I can never read more than three books in a series of books…. so I hope it will be the final chapter to the saga!
February- The Romanov Prophecy by Steve Berry- I am in the process of reading this now and so far I am enjoying it. It is a different kind of book than I would pick for myself, but I find that it is keeping my attention and making me think in directions that I wouldn’t- so that is good.
March the book will be The Giver by Lois Lawry. I have read this many times- in my teaching days- I look forward to getting others opions of the book.
April Keeping Corner by Kashmira Sheth. I haven’t heard anything about this book. I look forward to reading it.
May: Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco Stork…. don’t know who suggested this one. Again, looking forward to a new story
June: Silas Marner by George Eliot: A much-beloved classic. Never read it…should be good?
July: Night by Elie Wiesel- this would be the type of story that I would typically pick up . Looking forward to this one.
August: Island of the Blue Dolphins. Not sure about why some picks seem like book Ihave read with students. I don’t remmber this story even though I know I have read it.
September: The Host by Stephanie Meyer and October will be Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling- not sure how I feel about these choices?
November: will the Two Old Women by Velma Wallis- I like that story
and December will be The Christmas Sweater by Glann Beck. Not sure about that one????
But that is this years list anyway. Should be interesting.
I also have been working on a double diamond quilt the top is done and pictures will be up soon. Haven’t worked on the melon patch yet and have a block of the month to work on.
Keeping busy.
This is my next project.

The melon square. I am planning on making a few just for practice. We will see how this goes. I got the template- and the directions- time and fabric…. you just never know- I might surprise myself!
This is it! The quilt top from my friend “R”- the picture does not do it justice! The purple was incredible!

so…side by side here are the two of the four. When friend “W” and friend “C” sends me their finished ones I will add them on.
But I just find it so amazing that we started with the same fabrics and added others we liked and the quilts are so different looking.
Next I might try the same fabrics with the same pattern and see how they would look different! I am sure they still would!
Well, thanks to friends… R, W, and C for playing the lets make a quilt game!

so, got a picture from my friend “C” This is her pile of fabrics that will be used in the quilt that the four friends are making. I don’t think she mentioned what pattern she will be using.
I still need to get a picture of my friend “R”‘s quilt top. She has finished the top using the pieces the four of us sent and I can’t wait to see it. I have today off, so maybe sometime I can catch up with her.
My friend “W” sent a picture of the wedding quilt she made for her son and his bride. Beautiful isn’t it! I am sure she will get to the frienship quilt soon, but I love the pattern and colors of the wedding quilt and it gives me new ideas as well.
I am going to the quilt shop today- if I ever get myself out of bed. I have some ideas for my next project and want to get more done on it. I am thinking…shapes……
Also, today would have been my sister’s BD and I miss her so I thought I would just get my mind into a happier place and go play around with fabrics. So today I will pick out fabrics for an Oct 13th quilt and maybe by her bd next year I will have it done. Well, off I go..
These are the fabrics the four of us decided to use.

This is what I made…

I think I will find out what the others did and try to add them on here too! This was “fun” but I didn’t like the final quilt. I loved the fabrics, I just didn’t like to HAVE to get it done. Guess deadlines stifle my creative side.
Last April I had an idea to make the quilt. I have worked on and off on the project for the past six months and realizing that the time was here to be finished- I am finished. I wonder how the other girls did? So, now I will try to figure out how to add pictures of mine. But, I will post this first, cuz I don’t want to lose this while trying to figure out how to insert the photos….. to be continued…
So, I just wrote this amazingly long blog all about what I have been thinking and doing and why I have been so busy….I posted it- then went to the site to check it out. I tried to edit a word I had put in by accident and poof… like bad magic it was all gone. So I hit “refresh”- really bad move. I don’t know where in the WWW all my ponderings have landed but I don’t want to write it all over again. He is the condensed version.
Been really busy at work- was promoted to “sales lead” or “part time assistant manager” which ever you want to call it. I really like retail- I like helping people and enjoy learning new things – like how to fill a dumpster in ten minutes or less….
I have been looking forward to the up coming book club meeting next week. We read The Hunger Games and I really enjoyed it. I liked it so much that I bought the set for my son- my favorite son- I sent him Hunger Games and the second in the series Catching fire. He read them both- loved them both- and I did too. Can’t wait for that group meeting!
Also…. my friendship quilt is just about done and is supposed to be completed by the first weekend of October. I have to check in with the three other friends that are working with the same fabrics to see if they are close to done. I hope I finish it on time….since it was my idea.
Yah…. I think that was about it. I just hope that this gets posted and not sent off into the great can’t find that post.
Oh- one more thing. I do want to try to blog more often. I miss it. And I miss the comments I had been getting. So keep checking again….
I am back!
I haven’t been feelin much like writing these past few weeks. I have been really busy getting used to my new job and not really paying much attention to my blog. Oh ya, good news- I got a new job. I had a job- but my hours were so cut back so I thought I should look around. I found a retail job that I am enjoying. I started just a few weeks ago as a sales associate and have been asked to take the position of assistant manager. I am training for that to see if it is something I want to do. It keeps me busy-
What else is new? Well- I have FINALLY decided to admit that I can no longer eat ice cream. Sad as that is. I went to dinner tonight with my sweetie pie and had a wee little ice cream for dessert and by the time I got home I was feeling sick. I have been in my room for a couple of hours trying to get rid of the the feeling that I am sick. I know I could take those pills before I eat the IC but I just don’t want to NEED them. Sorta like I would rather push my glasses up on my forehead instead of admit I NEED bifocals. Getting old bites.
I got another issue of my quilting magazine today in the mail. I am not a reading magazine person by nature- but I do love when my quilting magazine comes and I go to my room and read it from cover to cover. I so wish I could afford to buy a long arm and do my own machine quilting. I would hate to put so much money into something and then not know how to use it! Wouldn’t it be great to have one and “rent” the use of it! I could set up my sewing room as a place for people to come and use the machine themselves but pay me for using the machine. Hummmmmmm wonder if that would somehow make getting one worth it??? I wouldn’t even want to make money just pay for the machine. Now I am just thinking with my fingers again.
I like SYFY- Random thought- but the SYFI channel used to be the SCIFI channel- and I like the change. I didn’t at first because I wondered if people would forget that it stands for science fiction- but how could you????
Maybe I am more tired than I thought. I think this blog will come to an end. Gonna go suffer from the dessert disease.
Todays project began with this fabric
and then I made this
this is the inside pocket – with pen holder- thank you very much
so that is what I did today. Erin will take better pictures I think- but I just wanted to get this posted.
That was fun to make and I learned stuff along the way. The next one will go faster I am sure.
