25 things about her

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Everyone is doing it. The 25 things thing. I was thinking this morning that  I want to write about my sister and not about me. Maybe that is weird- but here goes.

25 things about Sherry

1. Her first “real job” was as a waitress at  a Banaza resturant and she wore a brown pleather mini skirt to wait tables. Oh… those were the days of tips! LOL

2. She was the prettiest baby in the family. Out of the nine kids all the cute baby pictures were of Sherry. She had a little angel face- by the time they got to me-good ole’ #8 I had only two pictures taken.

3. She loved summer, and not wearing shoes. Even after cutting her foot in the woods on a broken piece of glass she still loved bear feets!

4. She loved to eat yodells wrapped in provolone cheese. Gross I know- I never had the nerve to try it. Maybe I will have one on her sometime.

5. She was the master of midnight snacks. In fact, Sherry could get up- COOK a snack- eat it and go back to bed without even remembering. This only caused problems once- when she ate the purple pop and in the morning called me thinking she had a heart attack.

6. Her favorite drink was pepsi.

7. Sherry loved to exercise. She loves workout tapes (Richard Simmons) and Yoga. She also liked having herself a smoke right after her workouts to “cool” down. LOL

8. She loved camping, even in bad weather.

9. Sherry always gave people more chances than they deserved. ALWAYS. This made her sad sometimes I think. She just had a hopeful heart. Things would be different this time……or so the story would go.

10. She was known for her own lingo… such as instead of chocolate delight she called the dessert chocolate u-like. She would never have a snack but a smakeral- and every Sunday she would have to go grocery pickin. and she was always saying “I am not hungry I’ll just pick” and then eat more than anyone else- well maybe except for Jim.

11. She loved to cook new things- like “turduckin” the turkey stuffed with duck stuffed with chicken- That was a crazy Thanksgiving! Think that was the same one the cat ate the middle of the pie- (and she tried to tell us the outsides were still good!)  LOL

12. Sherry didn’t like to swim, but she loved going to the beach. She loved the beach, esp. early in the mornings.

13. She liked to read- and I think she kept every magazine that ever was sent to her house. She also like novels- love stories I think??

14. When we were kids when it was time to clear the dinner table she would have to go to the bathroom. She would stay in there till the chores were done.

15. If she DID clear the table she would always take a piece of bread, spread butter on it and sprinkle sugar on top. She called it dessert- I called it “grit bread”

16. Her favorite holiday was by far Halloween! That worked out for me- cuz I never have liked it- so she was the only reason my kids ever even got dressed up and went trick-or-treating!

17. Sherry believed in things like ghosts- haunted houses and black cats being bad luck.

18. She loved working in her garden in the summer- and going to the “pick your own”  farms for strawberries. Sometimes we made jelly or jams.

19. When she had kids her entire life became about taking care of them and doing what was best for them.

20. She would have been a fantastic grandma- she already had the false teeth for it! LOL

21. Sherry was a VERY nervouse driver. She even hated if she had to drive “over the bridge.” She didn’t like to fly- but did take a train trip to SC when I lived there. Remember that Auntie- she mailed the tickets home and we didn’t realize it till the night you guys were packing to get back on the train again. CRAZY- Nothing like hanging out in the Train station in Sc after midnight with four kids… yah- that was a good trip. LOL

22. Sherry always had the first picnic of summer and the last. And always had SO MUCH food!

23.  She would wear her jean cut off shorts, flip flops and old band t-shirts all summer.

24. After our mom died Sherry used to wear her old old sweater. I thought she was lucky because she got to keep it.

25. Sherry  didn’t live long enough.

I miss her-

Amazing

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I don’t even know where to begin. The last few day have been just amazing to me. On Thursday Erin and I just stayed around the house all day while she was having some irregular contractions- by early Friday morning she was at the hospital in labor. John called me to join them around 3 a.m. by 7 a.m. she was 4cm – so I ran home to get something to eat and wash up and pick up a couple of things they needed from home. I was only gone 45 minutes and when I got back she was dilated to 9.5. By 9 a.m. she was at ten and pushing. My beautiful grandson was born at 9:46 Sept 19th. He weighed 8 pounds 11 oz and is 20 inches long. It was so amazing to be next to Erin as she delivered her baby. I am so proud of how she just focused on what she needed to do and did it. I could not believe my eyes when the baby was born- he is so big! He had some complications and is in the NICU for a few more days. He is doing well though and will be home before we know it. Right after he was born Erin looked at me with tears streaming down her face and said- “this is miracle.” I agree- Campers birth is a miracle- God is good.

If you want more information about the baby- check out my blog roll- codename camper. sign up and get all the pictures.
